Patti Smith Group guitarist Lenny Kaye coined the phrase "NUGGETS" for late 60s lo-fi garage/psychedelic ditties by one-chord wonders like Strawberry Alarm Clock, the 13th Floor Elevators, and the Electric Prunes. Kaye's original NUGGETS comp (later augmented to this 4-disc box set) contained the stuff of a thousand rock and punk acts to come. Future miscreants Ted Nugent, Leslie West, and Warren Zevon cut their fangs in primitive acts like the Amboy Dukes, The Vagrants, and Lyme & Cybell. The New York Dolls, Ramones, and Sex Pistols all took notes. WOOLY BULLY's greasy Tex-Mex groove, keg-a-riffic singalong DOUBLE SHOT OF MY BABY'S LOVE, Jagger-esque gem DIRTY WATER, and dozens more make NUGGETS an avalanche of the "grungiest" music the era had to offer.
